Kristen Cezat, PT, DPT, APT/SMS

Kristen Cezat is a Board-Certified Specialist in Neurologic Physical Therapy and a RESNA-certified ATP/SMS.  She received her DPT from the University of Central Florida in 2011. She has dedicated her career to rehabilitation and improving lives for adults with spinal cord injury (SCI) and other neurologic conditions. She received the APTA SCI Special Interest Group (SIG) award for Clinical Excellence in SCI Care and has served on APTA ANPT SCI special interest group leadership 2021-2024. 

Kristen is the Clinical Education Specialist for Altimate Medical Inc. She has presented locally and nationally on various topics related to assistive technology prescription and interventions and current evidence in spinal cord injury rehabilitation, emphasizing translation into clinical practice.

The Use of Supported Standing Devices Early After SCI

Course Description

This course will review the types and secondary effects on an individual following a spinal cord injury.  Evidence related to supported standing devices and recommendations for use early after spinal cord injury will be reviewed. The functional prognosis for the different types of spinal cord injuries and how this relates to supported standing device recommendations will be reviewed and put into real-world context through case study examples.

Course Length: 2 hours, valued at 0.2 CEUs for 2 hours of instruction.

  1.  Describe two physiological effects of a spinal cord injury on an individual
  2. Identify two evidence-based reasons to use and prescribe supported standing following spinal cord injury.
  3. Discuss 2 evidence-based clinical predictors for functional expectations following SCI and how these effects supported standing intervention and design.
  4. Develop and justify supported standing recommendations based on available evidence and clinical judgement for specific individual case scenarios.
