Job Summary

The Prototype and Tooling Specialist is responsible for prototyping new product designs. The Prototype and Tooling Specialist designs and develops new mechanisms for products.

Essential Functions

  1. Develop tooling for equipment to create desired product or conduct necessary tests
  2. Develop/modify equipment to achieve desired product or conduct necessary tests
  3. Develop prototype components for testing of products
  4. Custom modification of existing components and equipment
  5. Machine set up
  6. Read job processing travelers
  7. Read and understand prints to create parts to those specifications
  8. Set up and operate a variety of machines including (but not limited to) benders, saws, deburring wheels, drill presses, punch presses, manual mills and hand tools
  9. Trouble shoot, analyze, and improve fabrication processes
  10. Monitor tooling wear
  11. Perform maintenance of machines (as necessary)
  12. Examines completed work pieces for defects and conformance to specifications
  13. Satisfy requirements of Quality Management & Regulatory Compliance systems
    1. Follow applicable policies and procedures
    1. Complete records (as necessary)
    1. Share ideas for process improvement
    1. Assist with corrective & preventive actions and customer feedback/complaint reviews (as appropriate)
  14. Observe Safety Program provisions
    1. Maintain clean and safe work area
    1. Report potentially unsafe conditions
    1. Use equipment and materials properly.
  15. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Knowledge on a variety of fabrication equipment
  • Print reading
  • Mathematical skills
  • Ability read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to complete checklists, documents, and reports
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Lifting up to 45 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Cutting tool technology and terminology
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Thorough product knowledge (ActiveAid will provide training)
  • Knowledge of and proficient skill in using a variety of machines
  • Proficiency with measuring tools and inspection equipment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability in a machine shop environment
